Right before her intense 8-week season at the Metropolitan Opera House kicks off this spring, we sat down with the powerhouse dancer-director to chat pre-performance rituals, secret health tips, and her summer bucket list.

When you’re not dancing, what’s your favorite activity or go-to work out?
My favorite workout is hiking in the mountains in Stanley, Idaho, where I'm from. I also love working out with my trainer, Roman Zhurbin (@romanempirefitness).

With ABT’s Spring Season about to begin, are there any getaways or free-time you’re looking forward to this summer?
I'm looking forward to performing in summer festivals in Barcelona, Buenos Aires, LA, and Vail. But mostly I'm excited to direct my own show for the first time at a beautiful amphitheater in my hometown. After that I'll probably take some vacation with my husband. Hopefully somewhere with a beach.

Do you have any pre-performance or daily rituals?
My two main pre-performance rituals are music and coffee. Also, I love eating pasta 3-4 hours before every show. After the show I take off my makeup with Jordan Samuel cleanser and apply serum and a ton of moisturizer.

What fuels your rehearsals or workouts?
My main staple is definitely pasta. I try to eat plenty of veggies and I love fresh squeezed oj in the morning. I take vitamin B-12 and it seems to help with everything.

What does your off-duty playlist consist of?
Right now I'm on a reggaeton kick after spending some time in Argentina. Daddy Yankee's "Despacito" is pretty much on repeat. I love Rihanna, Frank Ocean, Carly Rae Jepsen, Dolly Parton, Kendrick Lamar.

Any summertime beauty secrets?
Summer is usually when I'm performing the most, so I try to get enough sleep, at least 8 hours a night. And when it gets hot, less is more when it comes to makeup and clothes.

What’s your favorite thing about New York City?
I think it's a tie between food and art. My husband and I just bought a place in Brooklyn, so I'm a Brooklyn girl now!

What are some of your go-to summer spots in the city?
I love MUD and Abraco for coffee. Rucola in Boerum Hill is amazing for dinner. And I love the terrace at Bar Pitti late at night after shows.

When do you feel your strongest, your most confident?
Probably after shows, when I feel that they went well. I get really nervous before a big show like Swan Lake and it's physically so grueling to get through, so I feel a strong sense of accomplishment afterwards.

Name one thing about yourself that most people don’t know.
I speak Swedish! My mom is from Sweden so I was lucky to get dual citizenship.


What’s your favorite asset?
Probably my legs, in a ballet sense. That, and curiosity.

What’s your favorite cocktail?
Aperol spritz or jalapeño margarita.

What’s your favorite CUSHNIE Activewear piece?

What was your favorite moment wearing CUSHNIE? Why?
So hard to choose! Probably the white two-piece number I borrowed from Michelle and wore to Hunkomania at my bachelorette party with a zebra mask. It was fierce.
